While cutting, you need to be realistic about what you're expecting to achieve performance wise in your resistance training.
Generally speaking, if you're able to maintain your absolute strength while gaining relative strength during a cutting phase...that's a win.
The more overweight/novice you are, the more likely it is you'll be able to gain BOTH relative AND absolute strength while cutting.
The less overweight/more advanced you are, the less likely it is you'll even be able to maintain absolute strength while cutting (though you should maintain or even gain some relative strength if you fall into this bucket).
This is because maintaining the upper threshold of what your body can handle skeletal muscle wise while boasting a low body-fat percentage is...HARD. If it wasn't, don't you think people (as in the average person) would look...a lot...different?
Of course they would.
Anywho, make sure your expectations for your resistance training performance while cutting are in line with what's feasible based on your advancement status, the amount of weight you have to lose, and basic human biology.
Hold yourself to a high standard but be realistic!
